Blessed By Giving

Our Family with the Phillips

The past few weeks have overwhelmed us as we experienced the generosity of God’s people.  It began as we received a call that someone was waiting to meet us at the church ministry center.  We arrived to find Pat & Ernie Phillips in the main room.  They were standing in the middle of many tables that were full of the Betty Luken’s Flannel Graph Set.  If you are not familiar with this, it is over 700 individual pieces and backgrounds of flannel graph.  In tears, Mrs. Philips explained that this was their gift for us to use in Peru.  She stated that if even one child was saved as a result it would be worth the time and money.  She spent over 48 hours just cutting the pieces out!  We cannot wait to get to Peru and use this in our children’s ministry.

We left the next day for a Mission Conference in Mineral, VA.  We presented our ministry on Tuesday evening.  On Wednesday, Pastor Huffman (Emmanuel Baptist) got up and explained what God had burdened him about the night before.  He recounted how he had saved his change for the past few years to put a duel exhaust set on his truck.  God had burdened him that the need for the children’s home in Lima was greater than the need for the mufflers.  In tears, he presented us a shoe box full of rolled coins for the “Changing The Lives of Children” project.  What a blessing!!!

We have now eclipsed 95% of our support as we have only ten meetings left on our schedule before we leave for Peru.

Great Conference

We had a wonderful time at the Mission Conference of Central Baptist Church in Greenville, TN.  The entire week was a blessing.  We were so excited to see the church do so many wonderful things for our children.  They had a blast!  The other missionaries in the conference were a great blessing as well.  On Friday night, there was an international food tasting.  (The Peru booth and it’s workers are shown to the right.)  It was a joy to WATCH a group of brave individuals eat a can of crickets from Thailand.  Our family looks forward to partnering with Central Baptist in reaching souls in Lima, Peru.

Our current support level is now at 93%!  We are now less than four months to our departure date.  Please continue to pray for our family.

Commissioning Service

We are so excited to announce the date and details of our family’s commissioning service!  January 9th – 12th our sending church will be having it’s annual Mission’s Conference.  Our Commissioning Service will conclude that meeting on Thursday, January 13th.

We will have several special things planned for this evening. My dad & sending pastor, Chuck Herrell, will host the meeting at Chilhowie Baptist Church.  Evangelist Lou Rossi, Pastor John Day, and Missionary Mike Kennedy will be preaching. Brother Mike Fox will be singing.  Each of these men are extremely special to our family and each has significantly impacted our lives and direction in the ministry.

I thank God for my father, Chuck Herrell, who has influenced me to live for God alone from the earliest of years.  He truly is my hero.  Brother John Day who now is one of my supporting pastors from Salina, Kansas was a dear high school friend.  His influence along with Brother Greg Wagoner (missionary in Africa) kept my focus on God’s call in my life when I tended to be distracted toward other things as a young man.  Other than my father, Brother Mike Fox has had the greatest spiritual impact in my life. While attending Crown College, he and his wife Valarie became our dear friends.  His example and friendship taught us so many things about ministry and life as well.  Brother Lou Rossi gave us our first opportunity in the ministry.  After being a Godly influence in my life as a young man, he later taught me so many spiritual things as I served as his youth pastor for 3 1/2 years in Atlanta.  Brother Mike Kennedy has been a dear friend for many years.  During our mission’s trip to see his work in Peru, God began His calling on our hearts.  We look forward to working alongside he and his family in Lima, Peru.

We pray that each of you will set Thursday, January 13th aside and join us for this special evening.  Lord willing, our family will depart for Peru on either the 14th or 15th of January.  Please pray for us as we finish our deputation and prepare for this exciting day!

Finally Back In Signal!

We have had two great weeks, but we have had no internet signal.  The first week we spent in southern Ohio and West Virginia.  My children were able to go to VBS at Tri-State Baptist Temple while I was preaching a camp for Buffalo Valley Baptist Church in West Virginia.  Both meetings went extremely well and our entire family had a blast.  The next week we were able to go with my parents, the Griffin Family and my sister’s family for a week of vacation.  It was great to get away and relax for the entire week with our family.

This week we are in Chilhowie Virginia!!!!  This was really exciting for me seeing that I had slept in my own bed only one night in the last 35!  Our home church is in VBS this week.  Our kids are so glad that they are able to be here.  Crystal and I are working on preparing our shipping container.  We have placed so many things in there the past year and we needed to get it all arranged.  Our 40,000 Scriptures from Bible Baptist in Beckley, WV arrive this evening and we will be placing them on the container in the next two days.  We are anxious to see this thing shipped off at the end of November.

As far as progress goes, God continues to bless.  We have picked up several new supporters and our support level is very close to 90%!  The children’s home has also taken in several donations that placed the fund over $50,000!  God is so good!  We now have a couple of weeks at home now and we are so thankful for the down time.  I will be placing our fall schedule on here by the end of the week.  Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

Two Weeks of Blessings!

What a blessed couple of weeks!!  God allowed me to host 26 people from Chilhowie Baptist Church & Tri-State Baptist Temple on a mission trip to Tanzania, Africa.  It was the final commitment that I had as a staff member at Chilhowie Baptist.  What a blessing it was.  Over the fifteen day trip, we were able to see 20 young people accept Christ as Savior, take a three day safari, do a multitude of work projects on a church property, and be involved in no less than 10 meetings (church services, youth rally, & house meetings).  It was an honor to be able to see the ministry of my longtime friends Greg & Paige Wagoner.  The fellowship and experience was incredible.  I am so glad to be home with my family and getting ourselves geared up for a similar ministry in Peru!!

On another note, God has blessed mightily since our prayer letter.  Every single number has changed!  20 salvations grew to 40 with the mission trip.  $46,000 in the Haven of Hope fund has grown to over $50,000 with a couple of wonderful donations.  With the addition of four new churches, the number of needed supporters went from 19 to 15 more churches.  And we are now two weeks closer to our departure date.  God continues to bless and for this we are thankful.  Please continue to lift our family up in your prayers.  We have a meeting in South Boston, VA on Sunday followed by a week of camp in West Virginia beginning Monday.

Camp Time

A Few Spiritual Supermen!

Our family was blessed to be at  a week of camp with Tri-State Baptist Temple in South Point, Ohio this past week.  Our brother-in-law, Tim Jenkins pastors this wonderful church.  We had such a great week.  Each night, I preached to the 102 campers on “Being a Spiritual Superman”.  We were blessed to see 16 young people accepted Christ as Savior.  We thank God for many other decisions that were made as well.

Pastor Tim and Mrs. Angie

This week we will be preaching the same set of messages at Camp Evangel in Pounding Mill, VA.  We are excited to be there with the elementary age camp from our home church, Chilhowie Baptist.  I will be preaching each evening as well as running the daily operation of the camp.  Our kids are so excited to get to go to camp with their friends from home this week.  Please pray that God will greatly bless this week as well.  We are looking forward to seeing some more “Spiritual Supermen” rise to the occasion!

What A Week!

Pastor Thomas Leading The Pledges (Lauren w/the Flag)

This past week we had the privilege to take part in VBS at one of our supporting churches, Bible Baptist Church in Beckley, WV.  During Bible School, the church brings in someone to preach to the adults each night.  This year they allowed us to have that opportunity.  It was a great week!  Our kids enjoyed being there so much.  We thank God for Thomas & Kari Shepherd and the for the wonderful job he is doing as the interm-pastor there. We had a wonderful time of fellowship with them as well.

Each night when I finished preaching, the adults went downstairs and put together Scriptures through their Seedline Ministry.  How exciting it was to be a part of this with them.  At the beginning of the week Brother Wayne Holder had set a goal to do 20,000 Scriptures to send with us to Peru.  By weeks end, the group had finished 40,000!  We will be picking these up at the end of the summer to place on our container that will be headed out by year end.  We are so thankful for their hard work and for the wonderful friendships we made this week.  We can not wait to place these Scriptures into the hands of the Peruvian people.
